72 Hour Emergency Supplies Kit
During a disaster it may take 72 hours or more for emergency personal to assist you. Having an emergency kit that will keep you self-sufficient for 72 hours is imperative.
Basic Items
The following are basic items that every emergency kit should contain.
- Water - 1 gallon per person, per day
- Non-perishable Food - three day supply
- Battery-powered or hand crank radio
- NOAA all-hazards radio & extra batteries
- Flashlight & extra batteries
- First aid kit
- Whistle to signal for help
- Dust mask, to help filter contaminated air
- Plastic sheeting and duct tape to shelter-in-place
- Sanitation & hygiene items (moist toweletts, toilet papers, garbage bags, etc)
- Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities
- Can opener for food (if kit contains canned foods)
- Local Maps
- Extra clothing
Additional Items
Here are some additional items you may want to include in you kit.
- Prescription medications and glasses
- Infant formula and diapers
- Pet food and extra water for your pet
- Important family documents such as copies of insurance polocies, identification, etc
- Cash or traveler's checks
- First aid manual
- Sleeping bag or warm blanket for each person
- Complete change of clothes including a long sleeved shirt, long pants and sturdy shoes. Don't forget to pack warm clothes for the winter!
- Fire Extinguisher
- Matches in a waterproof container
- Feminine supplies and personal hygiene items
- Mess kits, paper cups, plates and plastic utensils. paper towels
- Paper & pencil
- Books, games, puzzles or other activities for children

Your kit needs to meet all your families basic needs. If someone in your family has special needs, be sure to inclued any necessary items and/or medications.
