Countywide Zoning Project Timeline Revised

The Board of County Commissioners met Wednesday, July 23, to continue their previous discussion on the countywide zoning project timeline. After hearing input from citizens and County departments, the Commissioners decided to extend the project timeline beyond the original target date of November 7. No specific deadline was set for the adoption of zoning regulations and zoning maps. Although much discussion was had on the idea of a citizen vote to approve or deny any proposed zoning, this was not addressed in the Commissioners' adopted motion. The Planning Department is moving forward with a project timeline proposed July 3rd, which focuses first on refining the draft regulations, starting major work on the zoning maps in the fall, and (if all goes well) concludes with the public hearing and adoption process in mid-2009. In early August 2008, citizens can expect a public review version of the Draft C regulations to be released. This will be followed by a series of public events giving citizens an opportunity to obtain the new draft, ask questions, and give feedback. See the Countywide Zoning page for more information about this project.- posted July 25, 2008
