What you need to do.

You must complete a permit application for the proposed well.

DEQ Approval

If a well has received approval through the state Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) sanitation-in-subdivision regulations, please provide a copy of the subdivision approval statement or subdivision name for our staff to obtain a copy of the approval.

Floodplain Determination

If the proposed well is near the floodplain, a floodplain determination is required prior to issuance of the permit.  Please contact the Ravalli County Planning Department for a floodplain determination.

Setbacks

All wells must meet the setbacks in the regulations and on the permit application.  All wells must be located at least 100 feet from surface water unless the owner wants to limit the ability to subdivide the property in the future or would be willing to abandon the well and drill a new well that meets the setbacks required for subdivisions.  All wells must be 100 feet from all components of all proposed or existing septic systems.

Building permit:  You must obtain a septic permit BEFORE starting construction of a building. Failure to do so will result in a $1000 fine.
