Montana law allows a certified death certificate with cause of death within the first two years to be issued only to:
- Registrant’s spouse
- Children
- Parents or guardian
- Authorized representative
Uncertified (informational) copies can be issued but we will blank out the cause of death for the first two years. In Ravalli County we still need to know the relationship of the person requesting the copy.
- Fees: Certified Copy - $3.00 plus .50 for postage
- Informational Copy - $ .50 plus .50 for postage
Each request for a certified or informational copy of a death certificate must be in writing and must contain the following information:
- Registrant’s full name
- Date of death
- Applicant’s relationship to the registrant
- Reason for the request
- Signature of the applicant
- Copy of applicant’s driver’s license or other photo identification
